The past few days have been a whirlwind and although I hate to admit it, I’m totally unprepared for this week in all aspects of my life. I sacrificed half an hour of sleep this morning because I knew I didn’t have anything prepped for this week’s meals [so not like me], I haven’t done the readings/papers/stats assignments for my grad program due, don’t have any blog posts lined up yet, and it’s registration week here at the college where I work[busy busy busy!].
Ah well, this too shall pass, right? 😉 In just over one week I’ll be free of full-time work (ahh!) and have much more time for everything else. So really, I just need to get through the next eight days! I can do anything for just eight days!
“Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy.”
So, what does that mean for you? Well, just to prepare yourself fully, the next eight days just might mean that I’m (a) missing in action on GPD or (b) spending all my time posting obscure recipes and randomness rather than dealing with reality.
I figured now would be a great time to start the randomness with the ABC survey that’s been floating around the blog world [alright, so I’m a few months late… I still think it’s awesome]. I think it’s a fun way for you all to get to know me a little better!
A. Age: Just enjoyed my 26th birthday!
B. Bed size: Queen.
C. Chore you dislike: Putting away clean anything [dishes, clothes, etc.]. If it were up to me, I’d leave them in the drain/on the couch until it was time to use them again.
D. Dogs: None as of now, aside from our neighbor dog Mahoney. My favorite dog of all time? Our Daschund Fred that we had as kids.
E. Essential start to your day: Breakfast – I can’t function without it.
F. Favorite color: Green. It used to be just bright green, but I don’t discriminate anymore – I love all green. Yellow’s a close second.
G. Gold or silver: I’ve always looked better with gold, but I’ve got more in silver.
H. Height: 5′ 3” on a good day.
I. Instruments you play(ed): I started playing piano in elementary school, started playing flute in middle school, and then learned the bass guitar in high school. Sadly, I don’t play anything anymore.
J. Job title: Retention Coordinator
K. Kids: I love kids! Most notably this little girl:
L. Live: Pukalani, Maui, Hawai’i. Grew up between Wailuku + Hali’imaile [Mom + Dad are divorced]. College in Eugene, Oregon. Studied abroad in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
M. Mom’s name: Stacey!
N. Nicknames: Hales, Suemi, Haley Dong [don’t ask]
O. Overnight hospital stays: None for myself, but I spent many-a-nights in the hospital with my brother as a kid because he had really bad asthma that resulted in at least one hospital visit per year.
P. Pet peeves: Tangents when speaking [it’s okay to veer but come back to the main point, please!], people on the phone while driving, Professors who say “umm” too often [thanks for making me extra conscious of the amount of “umms” and “rights” I use, college public speaking class].
Q. Quote from a movie: “I’m down, I’ve got the 411, and you are not going out and getting jiggy with some boy, I don’t care how dope his ride is. My momma didn’t raise no foo’!” – Ten Things I Hate About You [favorite movie from the school days].
R. Righty or lefty: Righty.
S. Siblings: Darren (27) and my half-sister Tia (23)
T. Time you wake up: Usually 5:47 am [I have a thing about setting my alarm for random times]. Lately I’ve been waking up at least 10 minutes before my alarm – which really sucks when I don’t fall asleep til 11 some nights.
U. Underwear: Yes…? I don’t understand this question much.
V. Vegetables you dont’ like: I’m not a big fan of water chestnuts… does that count as a vegetable? Other than that, I like pretty much everything.
W. What makes you run late: I used to be early for everything. Now I’m typically 5 minutes late to everything, which drives me bonkers. It’s usually because I’m trying to prepare, or because I forgot to do something and am rushing to get it done at the last minute. Nowadays I often forget things until the very last minute. So I suppose my reasoning would be that I’m not as organized as I used to be.
X. X-rays you’ve had: Only one in the 5th grade when I fell while roller skating and bruised my tail bone.
Y. Yummy food you make: You can see a bunch here (click for my recipe page). I definitely go through my phases, but I always love sweet potatoes, oatmeal, and curries. My favorite recipe as of today? This curry stuffed eggplant :).
Z. Zoo animal favorites: We don’t have a zoo on Maui (we used to have a small one when I was a kid), and I always feel so bad for the animals [it’s just not right]. But I guess if I had to choose, I’d say tigers and jaguars – you know, the animals that I’m not meant to see unless I’m kissing this world goodbye.
So, there we have it – my ABCs!
Did you learn anything new about me?
I’m off to rock this last week of work. Have a beautiful day!
