Motivational Monday–Surround Yourself with Like-Minded People

Welcome to another gorgeous week! 

This past weekend was so wonderful.  Ben and I kicked off our weekend with a delicious potluck hosted by Dr. Tracey’s Chiropractic office.

Tracey is not only my Chiropractor and mentor, she is also one of my very best friends.  She has made such a tremendous difference in my life since moving to Maui just about four years ago.

I absolutely adore this woman, and I jump on any chance I can get to spend more time with her, so when she asked me to come over early and help her prep a few dishes, I gladly agreed!

There was heaps of incredibly healthy and delicious food brought by the guests, who are all members of the Livity Café of Life chiropractic community. 

I really love gatherings like this because they’re filled with like-minded, positive people who are conscious about their health.  For me personally, that meant that:

  1. I could actually eat most of the food.  This one is huge because there are so few potlucks where I can find low-sodium, gluten-free, sugar-free, highly nutritious foods. 
  2. The company rocked.  Everyone there shares a common goal: living up to our greatest potential.  And we’ve all made commitments to ourselves to do so.

Ben and I had an incredible time catching up with old friends, playing with all the babies, and getting to know new people.  I feel like I took down about seventeen plates of yumminess over the course of the evening.  It was the perfect start to a great weekend! 

For the potluck, I wound up making three things: crackers [I added a “cheezy” touch to these homemade wheat thins, and also made some gluten-free “cheezy” crackers], a spelt berry salad, and these macaroons.  Everything was a hit (the macaroons were gone in a matter of minutes), and I promise to get the new recipes up ASAP. Smile

Then on Saturday, we were lucky to spend more quality time with positive, healthy people! 

Ben’s cousin Kimo, who is from O`ahu, came over to Maui for a week and we were lucky to nab him all day Saturday. 

We had planned on a hike in the West Maui mountains, but it turned out to be rainy there that day.  We decided to go for a drive to the country instead.  Kimo is extremely knowledgeable about Hawaiian history and plants, so we spent the day telling stories, learning about new plants, and sharing experiences. 

We shared a quick lunch at home and then met up with Mom to make trouble at explore the Marilyn Monroe house in Waikapu.

Spending the day with Kimo was such a rare treat because he is filled with such beautiful knowledge and wisdom.  Of course, between him and my Mom, there was never a dull moment – both of them are so full of life, laughter, and adventure! 

Being around such positive and healthy people is contagious!  I had such a happy and vibrant weekend, and I know that it’s because I made the choice to spend it with such incredible people.  My entire life continues to be filled with love and light because the people I choose to surround myself with are all filled with that same love and light.  I can’t deny the fact that brightness emanates from me, too, and that I add to the beauty of all of my relationships.  I continue to count my blessings.
