A Typical Tuesday

I have had an exceptionally incredible summer this year.

Since the desk job ended and grad school halted for the summer, I’ve had more time to myself than I have in a long time.  Ben and I were fortunate to travel the states for almost a month, I’ve been able to join a book club [and actually keep up with the reading!], and most importantly, I’ve had the time and energy to create on a daily basis, which was my main reason for leaving the bureaucratic office.

For the first time in the past few years, I actually feel rejuvenated

I consider myself one of the luckiest people I know, and as busy as I know my schedule will become for the next nine months, I can’t help but be filled with gratitude as I prepare for this week’s writing workshop and my second year of graduate studies.

Sure, I may not be able to spend as much time on a few projects, but I’ve always been very good at prioritizing and recognizing what is most important in life: my relationships and the well-being of myself + those I love.  Nothing else matters if I don’t have those things.  Starting next week, I’ll be back in grad school full time, fitting 16 hours of practicum in each week, continuing to teach my TurboKick classes, and studying for my personal trainer certification!

Who wouldn’t be excited to take on these challenges?  Smile

In the spirit of recognizing how great I’ve had it this summer, I decided it’d be fun to see what a typical day in the life of Haley has looked like.

[Tuesday, August 16th]

[6am] : Greet the day with my hubby!  Help Ben prepare lunch for the day [roasted veg + brown rice] and sip tea at the table as he eats [yesterday’s breakfast: egg in the hole!].  Chug my first of three apple cider vinegar drinks for the day, plus some flaxseed [part of the LiveFit nutrition plan].

[7am] : Drop Ben off at work [Zak’s borrowing our second car for a couple days].  Finish my first liter of water on the drive home.

[8am] : Rock LiveFit’s Week 2 Day 2 workout with my new 30 lb kettlebell.  No more lunges!

[Not bad! 282 calories burned in 49 minutes, maxing out at 85% heart rate]

[9am] : Shower + breakfast!  1/3 c cooked quinoa, 2 eggs + steamed kale with a drizzle of tahini and nutritional yeast, plus liquid aminos.

[10am] : Blog time!  Write spaghetti squash post and read my favorite blogs!

[10:30 am] : Electrolyte boost + mid-morning meal [2 Tbsp (1/2 serving) oat bran + 1 Tbsp chia seeds, 1/2 Tbsp peanut butter, and 1 scoop protein powder].  Pack bags and lunch for after class.

[11am] : Errands [bank] + practice TurboKick routine while en route.  Yes, I’m that strange girl yelling cues to crazy pop songs while I drive down the highway [”jab-cross-hook-up; two knees!”].

[11:45 am] : Teach TurboKick.  My class actually starts at 12 but I get there early to chat with my amazing students and set up the room. Smile

[1 hr = 532 calories burned]

[1:30 pm] : Lunch on the run + grocery shopping.  The day’s stops = Whole Foods, Costco, and Mana Foods.

[~2 c grilled eggplant and zucchini + 2 oz chicken breast]

[3pm] : Quick stop at home to drop off purchases + afternoon snack.

[3:30 pm] : Chiropractic Adjustment [aka Time to Recenter!] at Livity Café of Life.

[4:30 pm] : Home!  Time to finish the book for tomorrow night’s book club meeting Smile

[6pm] : Ben’s Home!  Reconnect and debrief our days. Smile  I always feel whole again when I’m with Ben.

[7pm] : Dinner = leftovers.  Nothing special tonight.  I had some leftover veggies and chicken topped with avocado.

[8:30 pm] : Back to reading!  100 pages left…

[10pm] : Bed!

Ahh how I’ll miss this relaxed schedule.

What are your top priorities?  Did anything surprise you about my day?

I decided to take the summer off from school as well. It has been so nice to have plenty of free time to get other things done, but I start classes next week. I’ve actually begun reading one of my textbooks as I found out we have to read the first three chapters for the first week of class. I might as well start early!

I wanted to ask you about your high tech wristwear. What would you call it, and how much are they? How do they work? What all do they track?

Would you happen to be in Katie’s book club?

I just loved reading this! Mine would be pretty boring. The whole “spend 8 hours sitting at a desk” part. LoL. Love your HRM too, I just use my Garmin with the GPS turned off. Works for me!

Nothing surprised me, I just had fun seeing what you do all day! And it made me a little jealous. Ha! My priority right now is moving but we should be done tonight so it will go back to more exercise and healthy cooking!
