Healthy + Hapai–26 Weeks


Your baby “may now be able to hear both your voice and your partner’s as you chat with each other… And he’s continuing to put on baby fat. He now weighs about a pound and two-thirds and measures 14 inches from head to heel. If you’re having a boy, his testicles are beginning to descend into his scrotum — a trip that will take about two to three days.

The baby’s been super active lately – kicking up a storm especially after I eat or drink!  He or she also loves when I get a chiropractic adjustment, squirming and kicking like crazy the whole time.  Yesterday my Chiropractor actually felt one of the baby’s kicks while she adjusted me. Smile 

It is such a cool experience and I’m obsessed with feeling him/her!  I’d by lying if I said I didn’t just spend about 15 minutes talking to the baby, poking my belly, and watching as my belly jumped. 


I feel like I’ve definitely entered the fun stage of pregnancy where everything feels really cool and special, making me forget about all the horrible nausea and fatigue I felt during the first trimester.  While I was going through the nausea, I was wary about going through the process more than once, but the other night as I crawled into bed after my fourth trip to the bathroom, I felt the baby kicking and caught myself thinking This is the coolest experience EVER!  I could SO do this again.   

But then I couldn’t get comfortable on my side, and by the time the fatigue set in at noon the next day I thought about how amazing this whole process is: uncomfortable yet delightful, primal and intuitive.  It never ceases to amaze me.

[8 Weeks / 26 Weeks]

Although there are definitely a lot of exciting things happening, the fatigue is starting to set back in as I near the end of my second trimester [how does time fly so quickly?!].  As I wrapped up my third Turbokick class last week I was actually quite tired and excited for this week’s break from teaching.  I plan to keep teaching until the end of the semester, which is the beginning of May, but I’m open to cutting back earlier if my body tells me I need to.  I’m back to taking 15-30 minute afternoon naps whenever possible, which helps greatly, but I’m a bit nervous about the third trimester fatigue. 

I’m so glad to live in Hawai`i because being in the water has felt so good lately!  The ocean has been beautiful and it’s nice to do some water-jogging for low-impact exercise as well. 

Tidbits for Week 26:

  • Awesome videos watched this week: Conception to Birth Visualized and the Orgasmic Birth DVD, which our midwife lent us. 
  • Girl or boy? I’ve been saying “he” a lot more lately…  Ben has no idea… who knows?
  • Crazy dreams: the other night I dreamt I was going into labor, that it was really easy – too easy? – and that I thought I was gonna have a bowel movement but instead plopped out a teeny-tiny baby from my vagina.  The baby fit into my palm and wasn’t moving… and I couldn’t tell whether he/she could breathe, but no one would believe that I had given birth, so I had to go on this crazy adventure to the hospital.  The real baby woke up with his/her kicking and I was so grateful to know that it was just a dream!
  • Freak outs: One this week about not having anything for the baby yet.  I still have lots of time and my shower is going to be mid-May, but for some reason I had a bit of a meltdown the other day over it.
